Geoffrey Robinson Limited has successfully completed the
design and build project to renew the Steam Boiler Plant
at Newcastle General Hospital.
The renewal of the 30 year
old solidly engineered coal plant at Newcastle General
Hospital demanded continuity of steam supply, whilst dismantling
and removing the heavy plant and equipment.
The Boiler House was purpose built to accommodate the coal
firing equipment including four high level 50 ton capacity
concrete lined bunkers.
The new installation was designed to be much more efficient,
to reduce the electrical loading, to occupy less space and
externally to give little indication of any change.
Substantial environmental improvements resulted from the
change of fuel and by routing the chimneys internally the
character of the building was maintained. Furthermore, the
new working environment is Cleaner, Quieter, Safer and Healthier.
Close liaison with the client ensures the smooth running
of this contract with minimal inconvenience to the hospital
operation.
